Hue Parks & Gardens
Introduction- Hue is full of beautiful parks and gardens which attract tourists from different parts of the globe. The most famous amongst the Hue Parks & Gardens are the Bach Ma National Park and the Dong Hoi - Phong Nha National Park, Hue.
The famous Hue Parks & Gardens are as follows-
History of the Bach Ma National Park - In accordance with the tradition of Vietnam, the Bach Ma National Park got its name "white horse" from the white cloud which incessantly blankets its peak. The Bach Ma National Park was assigned the protected status when it was created in 1991.
Bach Ma National Park- Bach Ma National Park is one of the Vietnam's best-known tourist attractions amongst the various Hue parks and gardens. The park covers a mountain area that was once a colonial hill-station. Bach Ma National Park offers spectacular views over the coast. Good nature trails, waterfalls, green vegetation and excellent trekking opportunities are only some of the other features which render this park as a major tourist attraction.
The protected area extends right across the country sideways, from the South China Sea to the western border with Laos. It may be mentioned here that the 1450m summit of Bach Ma National Park was used as a helicopter landing base by the American army during the Vietnam War. The flora of Bach Ma National Park includes 2,147 species. There are also over 500 species which have commercial use as medicinal plants.
Bach Ma National Park is house to seven varieties of pheasants, including the rare endemic Edward's pheasant which has become the symbol of Bach Ma National Park. The Bach Ma National Park is among the best in Vietnam and one should spend a night or two to feel the thrill of the place.
Dong Hoi - Phong Nha National Park - Hue
Another name which is closely associated with the famous Hue parks and gardens is the Dong Hoi - Phong Nha National Park which has got beautiful limestone formations, grottoes and caves and forest. The largest prehistoric forest in Vietnam is located inside the park. Phong Nha cave is probably the most beautiful cave on earth full of interesting rock formations with several imaginative names such as The Lion, Fairy Caves, Royal Court and Buddha. Underground rivers, large caverns, passageways and broad pristine sandbanks render Phongna as a place worth visiting.
Gardens in Hue
The tale of Hue parks and gardens will remain incomplete without mentioning the wide variety of gardens that virtually defines Hue. The term Nha vuon literally means "House-garden". This word refers to an architectural type, very common in Hue. Hue's garden-houses are an integral part of Hue's cultural legacy Most of the houses in Hue have gardens for decorative purposes. Unfortunately however; numerous gardens within the royal citadel and mandarins' mansions have deteriorated over time.
According to Hue researcher Phan Thuan An, Hue garden-houses represents Vietnam's culture and the unique way of life they have adopted.
